Herb Strongeagle, BCom., was President and Trent Blind, BA., BBA and CMA, his nephew, was Vice President of Aboriginal Financial Services Corporation, AFSC. As a result AFSC partnered with MacKay LLP Chartered Accountants to work with Aboriginal communities and businesses to provide economic development, business and marketing plans, accounting and audit, financial management, investment, taxation and other business related services. Herb was also Director of Many Nations Financial Services Ltd. which provides benefits of Group Life and Health Insurance and Pension funds to groups across Canada. Herb was on the Indian Residential Schools Advisory Committee for the Assembly of First Nations in it's initial stages.
Because of his athletic ability, Herb was recognized with awards and honors. He received the Tom Longboat medal as best Indian athlete in Saskatchewan, was inducted into the Indian Head Sports Hall of Fame, and into the Saskatchewa First Nations Hall of Fame. He received a Lifetime Achievement Award at the 12th Annual Saskatchewan First Nations awards ceremony. Herb's devotion to sport led him to become a scout for the Regina Pats of the Western Hockey league for 12 years and a scout for the Vancouver Canucks for 3 years. The greatest testament to his influence with youth has been the many young people who have successfully pursued an interest in sports and higher education.
Herb's first position was with Co-op Oil Refineries and was followed by management and finance positions in Federal and Provincial Government Departments, and on First Nations Reserves. Also, he was Vice President of Finance and Administration for Saskatchewan Indian Federated University College.
He obtained his Sask. Grade 12 diploma at Lebret Indian Residential School, followed by a Business College diploma and a Life Insurance License from Insurance Councils of Saskatchewan. He was one of two appointed first Lay Benchers for the Law Socity of Saskatchewan.
Today, Herb continues to provide advice on management and finance. Since 1993 Herb and Joyce have lived in beautiful Cowichan Bay, BC. on Vancouver island.
