Mimi Lowi-Young

Mimi has more than 30 years’ experience as a Senior Health Care Leader, leading systems and organizational transformation and renewal in all sectors of the health system.  Her expertise spans the acute care sector, complex continuing care, rehabilitation, long-term care and community health. She continues to be the founding Chief Executive Officer of the Central West Local Health Integration Network since August, 2005.

Prior to joining the Central West LHIN, her leadership portfolio included President & Chief Executive Officer of St. John’s Rehabilitation Hospital in Toronto, Associate Executive Director of the Perley and Rideau Veteran’s Health Care Centre in Ottawa, and Vice President of Member and Professional Relations at the Ontario Hospital Association.

Mimi has extensive knowledge and experience in governance and strategic development and policy, and has served on numerous not-for-profit boards including Chair of the Toronto District Health Council.  She is a recipient of the Heart & Stroke Foundation’s ‘Tony Graham Award’ for Excellence in Board Service.

Mimi is a recipient of the Dean’s Philos Award, an award presented by the Telfer School of Management at the University of Ottawa recognizing individuals who have demonstrated outstanding philanthropic achievement and social commitment.

She is a Surveyor with the Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Management Education (CAHME) and is a long-standing member and Fellow of both the Canadian College of Health Leaders and the American College of Healthcare Executives.  She is a Preceptor for Masters Students at a number of universities offering health administration programs and she has just completed a three-year term as Regent for Canada for the American College of Healthcare Executives.  She is a recipient of the Chairman’s Award for Distinguished Services from the CCHSE and the Regent-At-Large Award and the Regent’s Award from the ACHE.

Mimi holds a B.Sc. in Physical Therapy from McGill University, a Masters in Health Administration and a Diploma in Business Administration from the University of Ottawa.  She has published several articles on patient education, quality management programs, and balanced scorecards and systems transformation.
