Ricky Chau

Dr. Chau is vice president of Asia Pacific Sales at Level 3 Communications (NYSE: LVLT) and is based in Hong Kong. In this capacity, he is responsible for driving wholesale and enterprise business in the Asia Pacific region.

Dr. Chau has over 20 years of management experience across numerous functional areas in the telecommunications and transportation industries, including sales and marketing, product management and business development .This experience has helped him cultivate extensive business acumen throughout the Asia Pacific region. 
Dr. Chau joined Level 3 from Global Crossing, where he served as vice president of carrier services and general manager, Asia. Prior to this, he led the carrier sales and global partnership program in Asia Pacific since joining Global Crossing in 2008. 
Before joining Global Crossing, Dr. Chau served as director of business development and product management for New World Telecom in Hong Kong. In this role, he was responsible for carrier business, product management, business development and regulatory affairs. He was instrumental in launching the metro Ethernet network for the company in Hong Kong.
Previously, Dr. Chau held various leadership roles in the telecommunications industry, including director of business development for SpeedCast, country manager for Equant (currently Orange Business Services) and director of enterprise sales for Asia Global Crossing (currently Pacnet).
In 1997, Dr. Chau noted the profound change of the Internet following its widespread commercialization and decided to change his career from shipping to the fast-growing telecommunications industry. He started his telecommunications carrier with Cable & Wireless as a business development manager with responsibility to sell IT and telecommunications solutions to the global transportation industry.
Dr. Chau’s previous career in the transportation industry began as a sales representative with American President Lines (APL). During his tenure, he rose through a variety of management positions with increasing responsibility. He last served as corporate sales director for Intra-Asia trade, covering Asia Pacific and the Middle East regions at APL’s Asia headquarters in Hong Kong.
Dr. Chau is a strategic leader and dynamic change agent with exceptional creativity and initiative that have helped him pursue both personal and professional goals. His excellent communication skills and articular manner enable him to readily relate to people at all levels of an organization. Dr. Chau is a frequent speaker at high profile telecommunications conferences throughout Asia Pacific, including Capacity China, Capacity Asia, Carrier World Asia and CommunicAsia.
