Sarah is a big proponent of knowledge translation and if it weren’t for the Telfer School of Management, she wouldn’t have that particular skill set that allows her to excel on a day to day basis in her role as Clinical Research Assistant at the Ottawa Hospital Research Institute.
Sarah originally connected to the Telfer School because of the networking opportunities it creates, the access to various resources as well as the close working relations with its professors. She obtained her M. Sc. in 2015 after completing her thesis on The Role of Peer Support Providers in Inter-Professional Mental Health Care Teams. It’s a study that focused on factors influencing the integration of this role and the implications of such integration to stakeholders. Her thesis also looked into the views of peer support providers on introducing a national peer support certification.
In combination with her undergraduate degree, Sarah’s Masters in Health Systems has given her the skills needed to feel confident in collecting, analyzing and disseminating data to a wide range of audiences. “I have always found it interesting to see how research can translate into changes within our environment, particularly in the health care system. Telfer helped me develop the skills I needed to be able to gather and analyze research data. Without it, I would not be working in the field I love.”
Sarah is currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Health Policy and Management at the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina - Chapel Hill.
