Michel Houle joined the Canadian Museum of Nature in 2010 where he currently holds the position of Vice President, Corporate Services and Chief Financial Officer. The Museum is a Crown corporation whose vision is to inspire understanding and respect for nature. It advances this vision by being Canada's foremost source of evidence based insights, inspiring visitor experiences and real engagement with nature. Michel is responsible for leading the Museum from an appropriation based operating model to a sustainable museum enterprise operating model. This shift is meant to foster innovation and increase revenue and calls for new skills and accountabilities for staff and volunteers.
Prior to joining the Museum, Michel worked for the Canadian Commercial Corporation, another Crown corporation, from 2004 to 2010 as Vice President, Risk and Finance and Chief Financial Officer. From 1997 to 2004 Michel was the Vice President, Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer of Senstar-Stellar Corporation. Michel began his career at PPG Canada Inc., in automotive manufacturing, where he held positions of increasing responsibility from 1991 to 1997 including the position of Director of Information and Financial Systems.
Michel is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA, CMA), and holds a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours from the University of Ottawa (1990). He is an active member of Financial Executives International (Canada) and served on the Board of its local chapter from 2008 to 2011.
