Prior to his position as Executive Director of the Canadian Association of Fire Chiefs JP owned and operated his own sport management consulting firm, Momentum Consulting, helping such organizations as Hockey Canada, Canadian Soccer Association, Rugby Canada, Field Hockey Canada, Water Polo Canada and the Canadian Team Sport Coalition.
Post Vancouver Olympics John-Paul took over as CEO of Speed Skating Canada and successfully renewed partnerships with pre-Olympic sponsors, built partnerships with the City of Richmond Olympic Oval and City of Halifax Canada Games Oval – with over $5 million of up front investment back into the sport in those regions for on-going speed skating infrastructure and training resources. As Executive Director of Volleyball Canada JP led efforts to eliminate $1.7 million dollars in debt in under 3 years while simultaneously doubling corporate revenue in that same period through new revenue streams and partnerships. JP also helped launch and co-chair the Canadian Team Sport Coalition which was successful in lobbying for targeted $6 million in new funding for team sports.
While Director of Marketing and Sponsorships of Volleyball Canada JP oversaw Volleyball Canada’s major event and sponsorship portfolio increasing marketing/sponsorship revenues from $50,000 annually to $500,000. Before Volleyball Canada JP worked for Corel Corporation where he managed all sponsorship and corporate marketing programs overseeing various partnerships including the Ottawa Senators Hockey Club/Corel Centre, The Art Institutes, Sony and Intel.
A native of Halifax, NS, JP attended Carleton University for his undergraduate studies in Political Science. After his undergraduate work, he completed his Masters in Political Psychology at Wilfrid Laurier University and followed that up a few years later with his MBA from the University of Ottawa.
