Michelle Pickett, a Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional (CIRP), Michelle recently joined PricewaterhouseCoopers as a Vice President in its Corporate Restructuring and Advisory Group, where she advises and works with the senior management and legal counsel of distressed corporations to identify critical operational and financial issues and appropriate strategic restructuring solutions. Since graduating from the University of Ottawa’s MBA program in 1993, Michelle Pickett has spent nearly her entire career working with distressed businesses. She earned her Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation in 1996, while working in the credit insurance industry analyzing distressed companies and managing a portfolio of high-risk short-term credit interests. Michelle joined Zwaig Consulting Inc. in 2000 and entered the arena of corporate restructuring, where she provided advice and assistance to the management of distressed companies in restructuring their financial business affairs. She was awarded her Chartered Insolvency and Restructuring Professional (CIRP) designation and Trustee in Bankruptcy License in 2005. Michelle was lured back to the credit insurance industry in 2007, taking on the role of Managing Director of Credit Analytics at Empyrean Re (Canada) Ltd., a credit insurance and reinsurance company headquartered in Bermuda. At Empyrean Michelle managed a multi-billion dollar portfolio of reinsurance and primary credit insurance risk through the use of credit and financial analysis and various portfolio management strategies. Given her insolvency background, Michelle was able to marry her insolvency and restructuring knowledge and experience with her credit analytic skills to provide Empyrean with unique tools to enable the insurer to mitigate losses under its insurance policies. Michelle has authored and co-authored articles that have been published in Annual Insolvency Law Review (2008), Canadian Booksellers’ trade publication, National Association of Credit Managers’ Business Credit magazine, Lawyer’s Weekly, The Bottom Line and Canadian Property Management Magazine. Michelle was a presenter at the 2009 Annual Review of Insolvency Law conference, and various creditor group meetings and Equifax conferences. She has appeared as a guest speaker at a number of national law firms’ internal professional development programs as well as a Women in Capital Markets’ monthly luncheon. Since 2007 she has served as a co-chair of the Planning Committee of the Canadian Association of Insolvency and Restructuring Professionals (CAIRP) annual Ontario Forum. She served as a member of the program committee for the International Women’s Insolvency and Restructuring Confederation (IWIRC) from 2005-2008. Michelle is volunteer and past member of Board of Directors of Junior Achievement of Central Ontario Michelle is a member of CFA Institute, CAIRP, IWIRC and Turnaround Management Association.
