Russell McLeod joined the Free The Children and Me to We teams in early 2004 and now serves as the Chief Operations Director of Me to We.
A business graduate from the University of Ottawa, Russell worked closely with Peter Koppel in the creation of the Telfer School of Management Career Centre. This Prince George, B.C., native has now become a driving force behind the Me to We philosophy and business model. Me to We is one of Canada’s leading social enterprises providing social conscious products and services that inspire people to make better choices for a better world. Russell began his tenure as the Chief Operations Director in 2010, during which time Me to We grew by 80% and donated $3.85M to Free The Children.
Prior to his role at Me to We, Russell also served as the Director of We Day for Free The Children. We Day's were launched under Russell's leadership in 2007 with an event of 6000 young people. With aggressive growth in the first years of its existence, We Day became Canada's leading youth empowerment event, bringing together a generation of youth to be engaged in changing the world through an inspirational event and year-long educational initiative. By the time Russell left We Day, the event had grown to 5 cities a year with 44,000 youth in attendance representing 1200 schools. By 2010, We Day activities had inspired students to donate $4.5M and volunteer 1 million hours of service to more than 500 charities across Canada.
While at Me to We and Free The Children, Russell has also helped to drive the success of several best-selling books and served as an overseas host and facilitator in Kenya for corporate, family and student volunteer groups. He has been responsible for the relationship management of high profile partnerships including CTV, MTV, Canadian Livingand Telus and is the co-creator of the Canadian LivingMe to We Awards, hosted in partnership with Canada's largest women's magazine.
